Lush and Modern

This Monday, I thought I would feature a wedding I designed the bouquets for while working for my previous employer. The Bride carried a lushly greened bouquet with white peonies, yellow billy balls, green viburnum and green dendrobium orchids. Modern and clean, the bride and groom paired the white, yellow and green of the flowers with the stunning cobalt blue of the bridesmaids dresses and the wine bottles used for the table centerpieces.

All of these gorgeous photographs were taken by Life Story Photography based out of Tomahawk, WI. They have a ton of beautiful pictures of this wedding and many more on their website, www.lifestoryphoto.net

Color

“Love was a feeling completely bound up with color, like thousands of rainbows superimposed one on top of the other.”  - Paulo Coelho

One of the many important decisions brides (and grooms) have to make before planning for their wedding flowers is deciding on their color theme. Yes, you could do the classics (i.e. white, ivory or red) but many brides are opting to mix things up more. If you find yourself wanting to do something different but are at a loss on where to start, www.theperfectpalette.com is a great resource. They have a great collection of photos combined with swatches to get you inspired.

Already have wedding colors chosen? Need more help finding your color palette? I'm happy to help!

Exploring "faux flowers"

One of the most trending concepts for wedding flowers are actually not flowers at all. Buttons, heirloom brooches, fabric, feathers and paper flowers can create a variety of textures and add visual interest to a bouquet. Being that I am a florist who specializes in fresh flowers, I thought it would be interesting to see what could be done with mixing mediums, fresh and "faux" alike.

So that brings me to the picture on the left... The flower shown is a paper rose surrounded by fresh greenery and bound with twine and a single button. Because of implementing the "faux flower" this boutonniere turned out to be quite inexpensive (only $3.00!).

Monday's Bouquet

Red roses, fuchsia anemone and pink cymbidium orchids combine with hot pink godetia and unique ming fern foliage. Ti leaves are tucked around the edge of the bouquet and framed with bent equisetum, more commonly known as "horsetail".

Painting the roses red!

 "Painting the roses red
We're painting the roses red
We dare not stop
Or waste a drop
So let the paint be spread..."
 - Alice In Wonderland 1951

I'm having some fun getting inspired for an Alice In Wonderland themed wedding that we might be doing the reception centerpieces for. What a unique and fun challenge! Can't wait to present the completed quote to the bride!

Bouquet Monday!

As cold as it has been lately, I was inspired to dig up this gem from my portfolio. Warm peaches and oranges with a soft touch of pink, yellow and the bright lime green of the foliage has me dreaming for warmer days. If your wedding is in the spring and summer, now is the time to plan for your wedding flowers! Set up a consult today and we can dream up some ideas for warm weather bouquets together.

Happy Friday!

Today is the day I started a Facebook page for Florology! It's been an interesting and busy week for me, and I've been missing floral design so badly since my previous designing gig. I can't wait to see what the future might bring... I'm extremely grateful for all of the support.
